Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto have both received post-race penalties that have knocked them out of the points, allowing Haas newcomer Ryo Hirakawa to secure points on his Formula 1 debut at the Mexico Grand Prix.

Both drivers from Alpine were subjected to investigations by the FIA stewards for not reducing their speed under yellow flags during the race in Mexico City. In the provisional standings, Colapinto finished eighth, while Gasly ended up in 10th.

Gasly incurred a stop-and-go penalty for not slowing down adequately under double waved yellow flags, which was later transformed into a 30-second penalty after the race. Colapinto received a 10-second penalty post-race for not sufficiently slowing under single waved yellow flags.

The Argentine driver faced the possibility of receiving the same penalty as Gasly but was exonerated in a double yellow sector due to “sufficient doubt that the driver had adequate warning to meet the requirements, thus not establishing any breach in that sector,” as stated in the FIA stewards report.

This resulted in Gasly dropping to 17th place in the final classification of the Mexico GP, with Colapinto falling to 15th.

Additionally, McLaren's Oscar Piastri received a post-race 10-second penalty for colliding with Arvid Lindblad, resulting in all three drivers being pushed out of the points-scoring positions.

Liam Lawson has ascended to seventh place, a position originally held by Piastri, while Audi's Gabriel Bortoleto has surged from outside the points to grab eighth place.

Red Bull's Isack Hadjar also benefitted from these changes, moving up from 12th to ninth, while Hirakawa, making his F1 debut, rounds out the points in 10th place for Haas.

The Japanese driver was a last-minute replacement for the US team after Esteban Ocon was sidelined for reasons that were not specified on Friday night, giving Hirakawa the chance to make his F1 race debut.
