The Confederation of African Football (CAF) may reconsider its decision to hold the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) every four years. According to journalist Romain Molina, this topic is set to be discussed by the organization's Executive Committee.

In December 2025, CAF announced a change in the format, planning for AFCON to take place every four years starting in 2028. This change sparked debates about the future of the African competition calendar and the role of AFCON in international football.

If the Executive Committee is indeed considering this option, a return to a biennial edition could be possible. However, no official announcement confirming a change in the schedule has yet been made by CAF.
