Former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal, who has been without a club since the end of last season, has signed with Getafe, where he will look to revive his career at 34 years old, the southern Madrid club announced on Tuesday. The strong right-back, who has earned 51 caps for Spain, has committed to the club until the end of the season, June 30, 2027. After a season plagued by injuries, he was not selected for the 2026 World Cup and had been a free agent since his contract expired at the beginning of the summer with Real Madrid, where he played for 13 years. "Throughout his career, Dani Carvajal has won 29 trophies with Real Madrid and the Spanish national team, including six Champions League titles and the European Championship in 2024," Getafe stated in a press release. "The right-back begins a new chapter with our team, where he will bring his experience and leadership," the club added. According to local media, Carvajal will earn less than one million euros, compared to around ten million euros per season during his time with the Merengues.
