Current leader of the Formula 1 championship, Kimi Antonelli, has identified the errors he aims to learn from this season as he approaches the title, eliciting a light-hearted remark from Max Verstappen.

The Mercedes racer secured victory at the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas from pole position, marking his ninth win of the season. His triumph in Austin positions him to secure the championship with a top-nine finish at the forthcoming Mexican Grand Prix.

When reflecting on the peaks and valleys of his season, Antonelli acknowledged that there is still improvement needed.

"Well, it’s certainly been a pleasant surprise this season thus far," the Italian noted during the post-race press conference. "Of course, it's not finished yet. There are still a few races where I aim to perform well and continue to contend for victories.

"It would be great to conclude the season on a high note. However, looking back over the season, there are still areas to enhance and refine my mindset in specific situations or how I manage certain scenarios.

"So, definitely, at the end of the season, I will have more time to reflect on things: what went right, what could have been improved. But it’s been a very steady season thus far, and we’ll aim to maintain that consistency until the conclusion."

When asked about the specific situations he was referencing, Antonelli elaborated: "First and foremost, Australia FP3, that mistake. In Japan, my start execution was poor. Then in Miami, during the sprint race, I lost points due to track limits. Yes, track limits have been a significant challenge for me."

Four-time champion Verstappen, who is now mathematically out of the title chase, humorously commented on Antonelli's track limits violation: "You only had one [today]," to which Antonelli replied: "Yeah, just one! It was good today. But certainly, in these types of situations, and also in some qualifying sessions, I didn’t approach with the right mindset. So, I’m focused on improving those aspects."
