Fans of Formula 1 have lauded seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton after a clip of him congratulating his former Mercedes race engineer Peter 'Bono' Bonnington at the Mexican Grand Prix gained widespread attention.

Hamilton collaborated with Bonnington throughout his tenure at the Brackley team, where he claimed six of his seven titles. Following the 41-year-old's departure from Mercedes to join Ferrari in 2025, Bonnington began working with Hamilton's successor, Kimi Antonelli.

The Italian driver clinched his first championship at the Mexican Grand Prix in just his second season in F1. Hamilton was seen embracing Bonnington as he celebrated this significant achievement.

"The images from this weekend were top-notch. The podium trio was impressive," one fan remarked on Reddit, referencing the podium at the Mexican Grand Prix. Red Bull's Max Verstappen took the victory at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, with Hamilton, who started from pole, and Antonelli finishing in second and third place, respectively.

"Lewis is simply a very classy individual. It's clear he's still quite affected by the situation, but he's setting that aside to honor his friends who deserve the recognition," another user shared.

"Honestly, Hamilton still feels like a Mercedes driver, just in a different outfit," wrote another fan, while someone added: "Bono must have experienced a mix of emotions today. Happy for Antonelli, but part of him probably wished it had been Hamilton's 8th title, didn't he..."

Additional comments included: "Bono has also enjoyed a great season. Imagine being the engineer for arguably the greatest F1 driver ever, then having to return to being the engineer for a rookie. It has turned out quite well for him in the end. I believe this partnership is exactly what Kimi needed to achieve this. Being young and new to the sport, having an experienced individual behind the scenes to support you truly makes a significant difference."
