Jurgen Klopp has come to a preliminary agreement to assume the role of head coach for the German national team.
Jurgen Klopp is on the verge of becoming Germany's new head coach after reaching an agreement in principle with the German Football Association (DFB).The former Liverpool manager held talks with DFB president Bernd Neuendorf and vice-president Hans-Joachim Watzke in New York on Friday, where both parties agreed on the key terms of a proposed contract.While the deal has yet to be finalised, further discussions are expected next week as the DFB works to secure an agreement with Red Bull, Klopp's current employer. The 59-year-old has served as the company's Head of Global Football since January 2025.In a statement, the DFB confirmed that the meeting was constructive and expressed confidence that negotiations would be completed successfully once an agreement is reached with Red Bull.Klopp is expected to sign a four-year contract, taking charge of the German national team for the first time in his managerial career. The role will also mark his return to coaching after leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season following a successful nine-year spell at Anfield.He is set to replace Julian Nagelsmann, who stepped down after Germany's disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
