Real Madrid leads 1-0 against RB Leipzig at halftime in this third matchday of the Champions League. After an intense first half at the Santiago Bernabéu, the Merengues opened the scoring in the 43rd minute through Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese midfielder finished off a collective move orchestrated by Arda Güler, Kylian Mbappé, and Federico Valverde.
The Madrid side gradually increased their pressure, but Leipzig also managed to create several dangerous chances. In the 28th minute, Romulo Cardoso forced Thibaut Courtois into a superb save with a volley. Three minutes later, Antonio Nusa tried his luck in the box but failed to beat the vigilance of the Madrid defense. Christopher Nkunku then missed a great opportunity in the 41st minute, failing to score against the Belgian goalkeeper when he found himself in a shooting position.
Real Madrid was finally rewarded for their efforts just before the break. After a combination between Güler, Mbappé, and Valverde, the ball returned to the box following a poorly cleared shot by Maarten Vandevoordt. Bernardo Silva followed the play to finish and score his first goal in Madrid colors. Shortly after, Vinícius Júnior attempted to double the lead, but the Belgian goalkeeper from Leipzig intervened again.
Despite this advantage, Real Madrid is not entirely safe. Leipzig has shown its ability to exploit spaces and could come back into the match if José Mourinho's men let opportunities slip away. Yan Diomande, who remained on the bench at kickoff against his former club, could also come on in the second half to add more offensive dynamism.
