VfB Stuttgart and Atlético Madrid ended their match in a 1-1 draw in this uncertain group stage encounter of the Champions League. After a first half largely dominated by the Germans, who took the lead through Jamie Leweling in the 36th minute, the Colchoneros managed to respond after the break to secure a valuable point away from home.

Diego Simeone's strategy paid off early in the second half, with Nigerian international Ademola Lookman coming on for Jonathan David in the 46th minute. Just a minute later (47′), Lookman made his mark by providing a perfect assist to Julián Álvarez, who quickly equalized with a precise strike (1-1).

The match became more tense in the 64th minute when Morten Hjulmand, the Madrid midfielder, received a straight red card, leaving Atlético with ten men. Despite this advantage and several offensive changes made by the German staff in the last quarter of an hour, with the introductions of Ermedin Demirović and Dženan Pejčinović, Stuttgart could not break through the Spanish defense before the final whistle.
