Wael Riad, the coach of the Egypt U-20 national team, confirmed that the Pharaohs' victory in the North African Championship and qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations is the result of significant efforts made by the coaching staff and players in recent times. He noted that fans have observed the hard work and determination on the pitch following the decisive 2-0 win over Algeria.
The Egypt U-20 team secured victory against Algeria in the match held today, Tuesday, as part of the fifth and final round of the North African qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Mohamed Salah scored the opening goal for the Pharaohs against Algeria in the 21st minute of the match, and Anas Rashidi extended the lead by scoring the second goal in the 81st minute, allowing the Pharaohs to claim all three points.
Egypt tops the qualifying table with 9 points from 3 wins and 1 loss, while Morocco is in second place with 7 points and has also secured qualification alongside the Pharaohs.
Deserved Achievement and Recognition of Players' Efforts
Riad explained in his statements that the tournament was not just a regular qualifier but felt like playing 4 final matches against strong teams like Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, and Libya.
He added that the main goal from the start was to qualify for the African finals, and winning the title rewards the significant effort that began with an intensive training camp since August 30, giving the players a chance to celebrate this achievement.
