Renowned for his prowess on the field during the 1960s and 1970s, Cameroonian forward Joseph Yegba Maya passed away earlier this week at the age of 82.

He was undoubtedly one of the last remaining goal scorers from his era. Joseph Yegba Maya's life came to an end at 82 due to illness, marking the second departure of an Indomitable Lion in just a few days, following the passing of the legendary Jean Manga Onguene.

Until his passing, Yegba held the position of the seventh all-time leading scorer for the club, netting 124 goals in 238 appearances. A Cameroonian international, he earned 25 caps, scoring 10 times, and wore the Marseille jersey from 1962 to 1970.

Having developed his skills at Dragon de Yaoundé during the colonial period, Yegba Maya made his way to France and joined Marseille in 1960 at the age of 16. He caught the attention of OM while playing in a Coupe de Provence match for Gallia Chutes-Lavie, all while working as a mechanic for the SNCF. Over eight seasons, he scored 113 goals in 236 matches before moving on to Valenciennes (1970-1973), Strasbourg (1973-1974), and Béziers (1975-1976). With Marseille, he achieved victory in the Coupe de France in 1969, scoring in the final against Bordeaux (2-0).
