Ceuta: Morocco refutes any role in large-scale migrant crossings

Following the influx of migrants into Spain's North African enclave of Ceuta in July, Morocco has asserted that there is ‘no evidence’ of its involvement.

The foreign ministry declared that Rabat would not become a ‘scapegoat for political maneuvering’ in Spain. This is the first official response to the Spanish police report that claims Morocco’s police acted with ‘complete permissiveness’ during the mass crossing.

Meanwhile, the Spanish Prime Minister has refrained from assigning blame to Morocco, emphasizing that there is no evidence it orchestrated the events.

On July 30 and 31, over 70,000 migrants made their way into the exclave from Morocco, an incident that resulted in numerous fatalities and ignited disputes within the European Union concerning migration issues.
