As anticipated, Luis de la Fuente has extended his contract. However, the length of this new agreement has come as a surprise.
The president of the Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Louzán, had suggested that it would be a contract lasting at least until 2030, but two additional years have been added.
De la Fuente is now committed until Euro 2032
Never before has the Spanish Football Federation offered such a long contract to a national coach, according to Marca. The reason is clear: De la Fuente is a successful man. He has won the European Championship with the U21s, the U21s, and the senior team.
Before this European victory, Spain also triumphed in the Nations League under his leadership. This year, he capped his brilliant coaching career by winning the World Cup in the United States.
De la Fuente could add up to six trophies to his collection in the coming years. His new mandate covers the European Championships in 2028 and 2032, the World Cup in 2030, and three editions of the Nations League.
The contract extension for De la Fuente was discussed in Las Rozas, the headquarters of the Spanish federation. During the presentation, journalists were able to admire the trophies won by the national coach with Spain; he personally brought back the World Cup.
The goal is clear: to bring the World Cup back to Spain. “Every time I look at our emblem with those two stars, I think a third would be even more magnificent”, he stated, referring to the total number of world titles.
As the host country, Spain is already guaranteed to participate in the 2030 World Cup. It is still unknown where the final will be held, with Morocco being one of the main contenders for this decisive match.
