Al Ahly decides to suspend negotiations to sign Mahmoud Elgazar, the Bank defender. Discover the reason behind this.
Al Ahly officials, led by Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta, have suspended negotiations with Mahmoud El-Gazzar, the Al Ahly Bank defender, due to performance-related issues. The management believes the player has good potential but is not better than the current defenders in the team. Consequently, El-Gazzar joins the list of defenders excluded from the coaching staff's plans for now, including Mustafa Ibrahim of Ittihad Alexandria.
Mahmoud El-Gazzar's name raised for Al Ahly.. but
A source within Al Ahly clarified that Mahmoud El-Gazzar's name was recently presented to the management as part of the club's efforts to strengthen the defense during the winter transfer window in January. However, the management decided to postpone the idea of signing the player and focus on finding a better option. The source indicated that the desire to sign the Al Ahly Bank defender may resurface, but the priority now is to look for a defender, possibly even a foreign duo.
Considering a foreign defender
The football management at Al Ahly, in coordination with the head coach, has begun to shift its focus toward signing a foreign defender during the winter transfer window, as this is seen as the most suitable option to bolster the defense, given Ammouta's lack of confidence in the local names on the shortlist.
Achraf Abada is the closest to joining Al Ahly
Algerian Achraf Abada, a defender for CR Belouizdad, tops the list of candidates to join the Red Castle. He is considered one of the best options currently available for Al Ahly, especially since the coaching staff is looking for a defender with physical strength and necessary defensive skills to address the issues that have emerged in the backline during recent matches.
