Alpine appoints ex-Mercedes F1 technical director Mike Elliott as Chief Technical Officer.
Alpine has appointed Mike Elliott as the chief technical officer for its Formula 1 team, further enhancing the technical framework of the Enstone-based organization.
On Thursday, Alpine revealed that Elliott will "manage the technical and engineering operations at the team's facility in Enstone" in this newly established CTO role.
For the 52-year-old Brit, this marks a return to Enstone after previously fulfilling the role of principal aerodynamicist during the team's Renault and Lotus eras. Elliott subsequently joined Mercedes as the head of aerodynamics, where he played a crucial role in helping the team prepare for the 2014 regulations. He eventually ascended to the positions of technical director and chief technical officer, swapping roles with James Allison, before departing from the Brackley squad in 2023.
"He boasts a remarkable record in the sport, having played a significant role in securing eight constructors' and eight drivers' championships," Alpine stated. "Elliott's presence at Enstone boosts the team's technical prowess as they aim to build on their recent on-track improvements and narrow the gap to the leading four teams."
It is believed that current executive technical director David Sanchez will report to Elliott, who will be in charge of the entire technical domain of the team.
After a challenging previous season, Alpine has made a robust start to the 2026 regulations, competing with Racing Bulls for fifth place in the constructors' championship. The 2026 season marks Alpine's debut as a customer team of Mercedes.
