Formula 1 is set to get a bit more immersive in an exciting way. Dolby Laboratories and Apple have revealed that starting from the United States Grand Prix weekend on October 23, Apple TV subscribers will gain access to both Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision in their F1 broadcasts.

These audio enhancements will be available to viewers with compatible Apple devices, as well as Dolby-compatible televisions and supporting equipment like soundbars and home theater systems that are configured with the Apple TV app.

The race in Austin will mark the first chance to experience this enhancement.

Enhancements of Dolby Atmos in F1
Atmos aims to transform the viewing experience from merely watching a race on television to feeling as if you are in the race itself, right in your living room.

“Formula 1 stands as one of the most enthralling sports globally, with each circuit, team, and race weekend boasting its unique visual and auditory characteristics,” stated John Couling, senior vice president of entertainment at Dolby Laboratories. “In collaboration, Dolby and Apple have revolutionized the way audiences engage with entertainment, spanning from music to films and television. Now, with Dolby Atmos complementing Dolby Vision for Formula 1 on Apple TV, we are establishing a new standard for how fans experience the thrilling sights and sounds of the sport.”

This season marks the first with Apple serving as F1's US broadcaster, enabling American viewers to enjoy races in 4K resolution alongside Dolby Vision and 5.1 surround sound. Dolby Vision elevates the broadcast quality, featuring enhanced contrast, brighter highlights, and more vibrant colors.

Atmosphere

“We’re constantly exploring new avenues to enhance Formula 1 on Apple TV for fans,” remarked Oliver Schusser, vice president of Apple Music and international content. “The sound of Formula 1 plays a crucial role in what makes the sport thrilling, and with Dolby Atmos joining Dolby Vision, fans will be able to immerse themselves in the excitement and intensity of every grand prix like never before.

"This is yet another instance of how we are persistently innovating the viewing experience to bring fans closer to the action.”

The United States Grand Prix will kick off with a media day on October 22, while the official broadcast will commence a day later with FP1 and FP2 on October 23. The grand prix itself is scheduled to start at 3 PM local time on Sunday.
