Boujnah Leads Al-Shamal to Write First Asian Chapter in Club History
Algerian star Baghdad Boujnah achieved a historic milestone with Al-Shamal SC. He scored the team's first-ever goal in the AFC Champions League during their match against Al-Ittihad on Monday evening.
Boujnah opened the scoring in the 63rd minute, receiving the ball inside the penalty area and firing it with his left foot into the net, giving his team a valuable lead in their first continental experience.
However, Al-Shamal could not maintain their advantage, as Al-Ittihad equalized in the fourth minute of stoppage time, resulting in a 1-1 draw and delaying Al-Shamal's quest for their first victory in this continental competition.
With this goal, Boujnah raised his tally to 27 goals in the AFC Champions League, reaffirming his presence in a tournament where he previously shone with Al-Sadd, now returning to make history with Al-Shamal.
The 34-year-old's goal came at a perfect time, following his red card in his last match in the Qatari league. He quickly demonstrated his ability to bounce back and regain his form on the continental stage.
On the other hand, Algerian player Houssam Aouar started for Al-Ittihad but did not perform to expectations before leaving the pitch in the final minute.
