CAF Champions League: Belaïli set to surpass Aboutrika!

Although his brightest years seem to be behind him, Youcef Belaïli continues to showcase his talent. This time, it's not just in Algeria or Tunisia that the Esperance winger is making waves: his statistics place him among the top performers across the African continent. The Algerian international winger has now accumulated 47 decisive contributions in the CAF Champions League, with 18 goals and 29 assists.

Belaïli is just two contributions away from surpassing Mohamed Aboutrika and his 48 decisive actions, thus becoming the most decisive player in the history of the competition. This figure is all the more impressive as the Algerian reached this total in just seven editions and 61 matches, compared to nine editions and 88 matches for the former Al Ahly legend.

The opportunity to get even closer to this record will come in the next round. Exempt from the first preliminary round, Esperance de Tunis will face Al-Swehly SC in the second round. The Libyan club secured their qualification after eliminating KVZ FC from Zanzibar.

With a double confrontation on the horizon, Belaïli could thus write a new chapter in the history of African football. Two new contributions would allow him to surpass Aboutrika and become the sole holder of this record, further solidifying his mark on the CAF Champions League.
