CAN 2027 Qualifiers: Egypt held to a draw by Angola in Cairo

Egypt missed its start in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Despite a clear dominance on the field, the Pharaohs failed to secure a win against Angola (0-0) this Friday at the Cairo International Stadium, during the first matchday of Group B.

In front of their supporters, the Egyptians largely controlled the ball, showing 63% possession compared to 37% for the Angolans. They were also more aggressive in attack, with 14 shots, 3 on target, against 10 shots and 2 on target for Angola.

However, this dominance did not yield results. Despite their numerous chances, Mohamed Salah and his teammates never managed to break through the Angolan defense. On their part, the Palancas Negras demonstrated great solidity to keep their goal intact until the final whistle.

At the end of the 90 minutes, both teams ended with a score of 0-0, allowing each to leave with one point.

For Egypt, this result marks a first setback at home in this qualifying campaign. The Pharaohs will now need to improve their efficiency in their next match to avoid dropping more points along the way.
