CAN Futsal: The dream faded against Morocco (video)

The Algerian futsal team suffered a significant defeat against Morocco on Monday, October 12, 2026, in Rabat, during the opening match of the group stage of the 2026 Africa Futsal Cup of Nations.
In their first appearance at a final tournament of the AFCON, the Greens attempted to compete with Morocco, the defending champions with three African titles. Facing a seasoned opponent accustomed to major continental competitions, the challenge was daunting.
Although there were some promising phases of play and attempts to get back into the match, the Algerian players failed to convert their chances against a Moroccan team that capitalized on its opportunities.
The Greens conceded two goals in each half from Youness Mkarssiet and Youssef Jouad, who scored a hat-trick. Nevertheless, it is important to highlight the performance of goalkeeper and captain Samy Taffaf, who made no fewer than eight saves.
In the other match of the group, Libya triumphed 3-0 against Zambia. The Greens will now need to regroup ahead of their next match against Libya this Wednesday, aiming to respond and secure their first points in Group A.
