Discover how the qualification system for the Olympics in handball is organized.

The African Handball Confederation approved significant changes to the qualification system for the Olympic Games during its meeting in Luanda, Angola, on the sidelines of the 47th edition of the African Club Championship for men and women.

Details of the new system and distribution of Olympic spots

Starting in 2028, the African Men's Handball Championship will focus solely on its main role in qualifying for the World Championship, as direct qualification spots for the Olympics will no longer be granted as before. Instead, the Confederation has launched an independent Olympic qualifying tournament in which only four African nations will compete for spots at the Olympic event.

Egypt is represented in the current African Club Championship taking place in Angola by both Al Ahly and Zamalek.
