The Klassiker ended in a draw on Saturday. At the Allianz Arena, a late goal from Fabio Silva allowed Dortmund to secure a point.
Before kickoff, technical director Max Eberl spoke with Sky Sports. He discussed the situation of coach Vincent Kompany: “I spoke to him on the phone, and he wishes us a good match.”
However, Eberl did not appreciate the insinuations that the Belgian would have an influence on the match. “He will watch the match, but nothing more. He needs to rest, and that’s what he’s doing.”
The match turned into a balanced contest between the two major German clubs, both unbeaten before the encounter. Jobe Bellingham thought he had given Dortmund the lead, with Joey Veerman on the pitch, after just over half an hour of play, but goalkeeper Jonas Urbig was impeded, and the goal was disallowed. Earlier, Ismaël Saibari had to leave the pitch due to injury for Der Rekordmeister, as his leg got caught in a duel with Gregor Kobel.
Shortly after, the scenario changed at the other end of the pitch. Konrad Laimer found himself one-on-one with Kobel. The Austrian was initially stopped by the goalkeeper, but Laimer easily recovered the ball and scored.
After halftime, Harry Kane had a golden opportunity to double Bayern's lead. During a penalty, the Ballon d'Or winner missed the target: his shot hit the crossbar. Dortmund took advantage. Who else but Serhou Guirassy equalized? However, Dortmund could not enjoy this lead for long. A cross to the far post was headed back by Kane. Dayot Upamecano simply had to push the ball into the net. That was already Kane's eighth assist of the season in the Bundesliga, placing him at the top of that ranking.
This was not enough to secure victory. A cross from Veerman miraculously landed at the feet of Fabio Silva, who turned and sent the ball into the far corner. Both teams thus remain level. This result also allows Bayern and Dortmund to maintain their unbeaten record in the Bundesliga this season.
