England: Maresca reveals his plans regarding Aït-Nouri

Rayan Aït-Nouri continues to showcase his versatility since joining Manchester City. Positioned in an unusual role against Norwich, the Algerian international proved decisive in a more advanced position.

When asked why he chose to start Aït-Nouri as an attacking left winger, Enzo Maresca explained that it was, among other reasons, a way to give playing time to various members of his squad. “We had to find a way to keep everyone happy in the team, and for that, every player needs to have playing time,” stated the Manchester City coach.

Maresca then detailed the instructions given to Aït-Nouri, who was playing higher than usual. “Tonight, we started with Rico Lewis, Khusanov, Reis, Nico O’Reilly, and Aït-Nouri, whom we tested as an attacking left winger, and it worked perfectly,” he said.

This attempt proved particularly successful as the Algerian defender provided two assists during the match. An offensive contribution that was clearly appreciated by his coach.

Maresca also highlighted Aït-Nouri's ability to get involved in various phases of play. “When we attack, he joins Allan, Cherki, and Samba to create more space for us. And when it comes to defending, he also comes back to help the team protect itself,” the coach clarified.

These statements emphasize the versatility of the Algerian player, capable of adapting to varied tactical demands and contributing both in the final third and defensively. His performance against Norwich could therefore provide a new option for Maresca, who can now rely on an Aït-Nouri ready to play in a more offensive role when the situation demands.
