Bougherra sets a global goal!

Since last January, Madjid Bougherra has been the head coach of Lebanon and has already begun laying the foundations for his project. The former coach of the Greens aims to establish his work for the long term and build a team capable of reaching a new level.

Madjid Bougherra did not come to Lebanon to maintain the status quo. After taking the reins of the Lebanese team, the former Algerian international quickly decided to bring renewal to the group and commit to a long-term vision. This is a decision he fully embraces, despite the challenges posed by local football.

In an interview on Friday with Al Araby Al Jadeed, the Algerian coach clearly outlined the contours of his project: “I do not know what the previous promises were. But what I assured the Federation is that I am here to prepare a generation for the next five to ten years, with a particular focus on the World Cup qualifiers that will take place in a year and a half, in order to achieve the expected results.”

Bougherra emphasizes the importance of building a sustainable team: “We will fully invest ourselves to prepare a generation that can last for many years. This is the constant objective of national teams. It is crucial to renew and maintain competitiveness every two or three years. I believe that the renewal of the team I have implemented was a bold decision.”

The former defender of the Greens also refuses to adopt a short-term mindset or prioritize a purely defensive approach: “I did not come here to seek easy solutions, to maintain the same players of a certain age, or because I do not have a clear vision. It is not about adopting a defensive style, waiting, and seeking a positive result. It is really about establishing a long-term philosophy.”

The 43-year-old technician also wishes to establish true continuity among the various Lebanese selections. “The goal is to bring together all the national teams, across all age categories, to try to develop a common game plan and communicate together,” he explains.

Aware that his project will not be simple, the Algerian remains confident: “It will not be an easy task. We hope to achieve results very quickly. But in any case, I have confidence in what I am doing.”
