For the second matchday of the group stage of the Europa League, Olympique de Marseille will host its fans at the Stade Vélodrome this Thursday at 19:00 GMT. Facing Greek club Olympiakos, the Phocaeans approach this European match with a strong determination to turn the tide after a difficult start to the season on the continental stage.
The recent victory in the league against Troyes (2-0) allowed the Marseillais to end a streak of five consecutive defeats. It is now crucial to extend this resurgence in the Europa League, in order to erase the heavy loss suffered in the opener against Beşiktaş (4-1) and to put an end to a series of three straight defeats in European competition.
On their side, Olympiakos arrives at this encounter with full confidence, backed by the strategy of their new coach Imanol Alguacil. Determined to exploit any weakness of the Olympians at home, the visitors are intent on disrupting the Marseille evening and stifling the ambitions of the hosts.
