Formula 1's CEO Stefano Domenicali states that "an entire nation will rejoice" following Kimi Antonelli's triumph as the youngest champion in the series at the Mexican Grand Prix.

The 20-year-old also made history as the first Italian world champion in 73 years, since Alberto Ascari's victory in 1953. The Mercedes racer secured third place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, finishing behind Max Verstappen and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, which was sufficient to earn him the title.

"Today, Kimi Antonelli has etched his name in history. Achieving the title of the youngest Formula 1 world champion is an incredible feat, accomplished through remarkable talent, bravery, and perseverance," Domenicali expressed in a statement.

"It brings me immense pride to witness Kimi becoming the first Italian Formula 1 world champion since Alberto Ascari in 1953. For 73 years, our nation has anticipated this moment, and today an entire country will rejoice as one of its own reaches the zenith of our sport.

"Greatness is assessed not solely by records, but by the generations it inspires. Kimi has captivated the hearts of millions of fans worldwide and demonstrated to young people everywhere that there are no bounds to what can be attained through commitment, belief, and hard work. Across the globe, young boys and girls watching today will see in Kimi a testament that the loftiest dreams can indeed come true."

So far this season, Antonelli has claimed victory in nine grands prix during his second year in F1, including his home race at Monza, after taking over Hamilton's seat at Mercedes in 2025.

"Today, his name is forever linked with the legends of our sport," the Italian continued. "A new chapter in the history of Formula 1 has been penned, and I truly believe this is just the start of an extraordinary legacy.

"Congratulations to Kimi, Mercedes, and his family on this remarkable accomplishment. The entire Formula 1 community stands proud to commemorate this unique moment with them."
