Kimi Antonelli makes history as the youngest world champion in Formula 1.

Kimi Antonelli has made history as the youngest Formula 1 world champion after securing third place at the Mexican Grand Prix.
The Mercedes racer needed to place at least ninth in the race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez to clinch his first title. At just 20 years and 68 days old, he has shattered the previous record held by four-time champion Sebastian Vettel, who was 23 years and 134 days when he captured his inaugural title with Red Bull in 2010.
Moreover, he has become the first Italian driver to win a championship since Alberto Ascari in 1953.
In only his second season in F1, Antonelli took the lead in the standings during the third round of the championship after achieving consecutive victories at the Chinese and Japanese Grands Prix.

From that point on, he continued to excel, claiming an additional four grand prix victories in the first half of the season in Miami, Canada, Monaco, and Belgium. Following the summer break, he also triumphed in three more grands prix in Italy, Spain, and Austin.
As a result, Antonelli had established a 123-point advantage over his Mercedes teammate George Russell going into the Mexican Grand Prix, and he has now secured the championship with four races left in the season. Red Bull's Max Verstappen emerged victorious at the Mexican Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton finishing in second place.
"We did it, we did it. I wouldn’t be here without Mercedes, without my family, so I’m extremely thankful for this moment, one that will stay with me forever," Antonelli expressed after the race.
"I’m at a loss for words. I’m trying to comprehend what has just occurred."
He continued: "It’s been an amazing season, and to share this podium with Max and Lewis is truly remarkable. I look forward to more exciting battles ahead."
"This weekend, I did feel a bit more anxious, but I’m just so thrilled that we accomplished it, and now we can relish the remainder of the season."
The competition for second place in the drivers’ standings is still ongoing.
