Fernando Alonso has prolonged his contract with Aston Martin, securing his position in Formula 1 until 2027.

However, Alonso's reluctance to make a public commitment was partly a strategy to exert pressure on F1, particularly after he had discussions with Stefano Domenicali and FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

Now, the anticipated news has arrived: Alonso has inked a new agreement with Aston Martin, the team he joined in a surprising switch from Alpine for the 2023 season.

The Spaniard has experienced a significant rollercoaster with the Silverstone team, having a stunning start with six podium finishes in his first eight grands prix, followed by two additional podiums that same year.

However, the subsequent period has been largely disappointing, as Aston Martin fell behind its competitors in development before starting the 2026 regulations poorly, partly due to the uncompetitive Honda engine.

Aston Martin currently occupies 10th place in the standings with only three points—entirely earned by Alonso—after 15 races, sitting just ahead of newcomer Cadillac.

The Silverstone team has also confirmed the extension of Lance Stroll's contract, ensuring he will enter his ninth season with Team Silverstone after transitioning from Williams.
