Arsenal enjoyed a perfect weekend by defeating Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday, November 1. The Gunners managed the match almost entirely after scoring, demonstrating impeccable defensive skills against the Reds' sterile dominance. The Londoners reclaimed the top spot, surpassing Manchester City, who were surprised by Brighton (0-1) the previous Saturday, with a three-point lead.

Arsenal imposed their will at Anfield, showcasing the traits of a champion with a solid defense that knows how to capitalize on rare opportunities to punish their opponent at the right moment. This Sunday, it was the Reds who learned this lesson on their own turf (0-1).

After a balanced first quarter of an hour, the Reds were punished following a poorly executed clearance by Alisson towards French defender Jérémy Jacquet. This turnover opened the door for the Gunners to quickly approach the goal. From the right side of the box, Declan Rice delivered a powerful low cross to Kai Havertz, who calmly scored at the far post (16', 0-1).

Trailing on their own ground, Liverpool intensified their efforts to equalize, launching multiple attacks on David Raya's goal. Frenchman Bradley Barcola was very active on his flank, narrowly missing the equalizer after a ball pushed too hard into the box (18'), and then delivering a magnificent curling cross that Alexander Isak failed to convert in front of goal (21').

However, despite their dominance in play and hitting the crossbar from a free kick by Florian Wirtz (39'), the Reds finished the first half without registering any of their eight shots on target against Arsenal.

Arsenal overtakes City and regains the lead

Still aggressive at the start of the second half (70% possession during the first fifteen minutes), but just as ineffective as before, Andoni Iraola's men never seemed incisive enough to destabilize the London defensive block.

The Gunners even managed to threaten during their rare opportunities in the opposition box, such as during Tzolis's run and his cutback that was cleared in extremis by a good intervention from Jacquet (68'). The Greek forward then forced Alisson into a spectacular save, deflecting his curled shot at the far post just in time (73') to keep the Reds in the match.

Frustrated and lacking solutions, Liverpool players began to lose their composure when Mac Allister fouled Timber before going to the ground (79'). After a brief interruption by the referee and two yellow cards issued, the Scousers found themselves back at square one: the opposing defense remained disciplined and impenetrable until the final whistle.

On their own turf at Anfield, the verdict is clear for Liverpool: with a total of 17 attempted shots and no shots on target, the defeat against the defending champions seems logical, leaving them in 5th place in the standings, nine points behind.

The Gunners, on the other hand, seized the opportunity presented to them following Manchester City's unexpected defeat to Brighton (0-1) on Saturday, reclaiming the reins of the Premier League.
