From the Stands of Casablanca to Bosnia.. Nasr Hussein Dey Fans' Banner Causes a Stir!
The echoes of the stands of Nasr Hussein Dey have crossed the borders of Algeria, after a banner raised by the club's fans last Saturday during the match against Chabab Taghit in the first round of the second division amateur championship caught the attention of Bosnian media.
The Casablanca stadium in the capital was the stage for a prominent message from the “Ultra Dey Boys” group, which displayed a banner reading “Hek el jarad.. RAT-KO,” referring to Ratko Mladić, the former military leader of the Bosnian Serb forces, who passed away on August 27 in a hospital in The Hague while serving a life sentence after being convicted of war crimes.
The message did not remain confined to the stands of the Casablanca stadium, as it was picked up by Bosnian media, led by the “Radio Sarajevo” website, which dedicated a report to the event, highlighting the stance of Nasr Hussein Dey supporters.
The “N1 BiH” website also addressed the message coming from Algeria and the attention it received in the region, linking it to the ongoing discussion about the appearance of symbols and messages glorifying Mladić in some Serbian stands.
The issue holds particular sensitivity in Bosnia, as Mladić was convicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes committed during the Bosnian War.
This gesture reflects a side of Algerian fan culture, which has long made the stands a platform to express its positions on issues that transcend the boundaries of football. It conveys messages of solidarity with peoples and causes they deem just, reaffirming that the voice of Algerian stands can transcend borders and reach various parts of the world.
