George Russell shares insights about the F1 drivers' trip to Langkawi as they prepare for the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.

Mercedes racer George Russell has recounted a boys' getaway to Langkawi, featuring a local go-karting competition, just before this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.
On Instagram, Russell shared images from the trip with six fellow Formula 1 competitors: Oscar Piastri, Alex Albon, Oliver Bearman, Carlos Sainz, Gabriel Bortoleto, and Lando Norris.
The snapshots capture the group in front of a waterfall, engaging in go-karting, and enjoying a game of chess, along with Norris filming his McLaren teammate, likely for his Prime docuseries.
During a media session, including Motorsport.com, at a press conference held at the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Russell mentioned that the trip's agenda was shaped by Mercedes' title sponsor, Petronas.
"Langkawi was fantastic. I really enjoy coming to Malaysia. We visit several times a year, and everyone at Petronas has often suggested that we explore the stunning island of Langkawi," the 28-year-old expressed.
"So we went along with six other drivers, and we had an absolutely wonderful time. It’s such a gorgeous place. The locals are incredibly friendly, and it felt like stepping into a different world while we were there. I truly appreciated that, and it was an ideal way to gear up for this week."
Russell's teammate Kimi Antonelli also touched down in Malaysia early but opted to spend his time discovering Kuala Lumpur and visiting a water park.
"I had a blast," the current championship frontrunner shared. "There weren’t many people around, so I could go down the slide over and over. I went on the same slide five times in about three minutes, just running up and down. It was great.
"Aside from that, while I've been in Malaysia, I've been exploring the city. It was really cool to see KL overall. I didn’t sample any traditional cuisine because, yeah, maybe after the weekend..."
Antonelli approaches the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia with a 66-point advantage in the standings following Russell's victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
