Moroccan international player Azzedine Onahi, who plays for Greek club Panathinaikos, underwent successful surgery on Thursday to treat a complete tear in the hamstring tendon of his right leg, with expectations of being sidelined for four to five months.

The Greek club announced via its official account on X that the surgery was successful and that Onahi will begin a specialized rehabilitation program starting Friday to regain his fitness and return to competition.

Panathinaikos revealed that Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, of Paris Saint-Germain, was the first to visit Onahi after the surgery, sharing a photo of them together in the hospital.

The surgery was performed by Panathinaikos' doctor Harris Lalos, along with orthopedic surgeon Nikola Louvefer and Christophe Boudo, the Moroccan national team's doctor and medical advisor for Paris Saint-Germain.

Onahi sustained the injury during his team's match against Asteras Tripolis on October 18, in the Greek league, which ended with Panathinaikos winning 5-1, where he had to be carried off the field on a stretcher in the 19th minute.

Estimates from Greek media suggest that the Moroccan player's absence could extend to five months, pending developments in his health status and response to the rehabilitation program.
