Kimi Antonelli cautioned that "the pressure will increase" in the battle for the F1 championship.
Three-time W Series titleholder Jamie Chadwick has cautioned current Formula 1 championship frontrunner Kimi Antonelli that the pressure of the title race will eventually start to weigh on him.
Antonelli secured his eighth victory of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix, widening his advantage in the standings to 81 points over his Mercedes teammate George Russell, who ranks second.
As the 20-year-old continues to excel on the circuit, there are worries that the burden of chasing his first championship could begin to affect his performance, although that has yet to manifest.
"There's always some level of pressure," Chadwick remarked during the Sky Sports F1 coverage in Azerbaijan.
"At the beginning of the season, when the discussion centers around being the title favorite, that pressure was more on George's shoulders - then throughout the year it's about 'can you maintain that?'”
"I think Kimi has handled that very well this year. He doesn't appear to be overly troubled by the pressure. I believe that has allowed him to drive with freedom. He is able to maintain his confidence and ride the wave of momentum he has built up."

"But it does take its toll. Eventually, it will come down to the final stages and if he keeps this pace, undoubtedly, he will take it home - but there are still many races ahead. If it comes down to the last few races, that’s when the pressure will intensify."
1997 F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve, who joined Chadwick on the broadcast, stated that Antonelli is experiencing the "fortune of a champion".
"He has a substantial lead over his teammate," the Canadian noted. "And at this moment, he possesses what we refer to as all the 'fortune of a champion', where everything seems to go his way.
"Even when he slips up, it somehow ends up working out positively. He keeps accumulating points, making it very challenging for him to lose enough points to surrender his championship advantage at this stage."
