Lionel Messi will play his last international match with Argentina, wearing a specially designed jersey for the occasion. The 39-year-old forward will bid farewell to the national team against Benin on October 6. This match will take place at the Estadio Monumental of River Plate. Messi revealed this distinctive jersey via his Instagram account.
The traditional light blue and white colors remain the fundamentals of the jersey. For the farewell match, several elements have been added. For example, the Sol de Mayo is integrated into the design, and the inscriptions are in gold. The most striking detail is Messi's famous number ten, which features two horns, referencing the acronym GOAT, meaning Greatest of All Time.
“The last match, one final time on the field with a jersey for life,” Messi shared during the presentation of the outfit. Thus, the Argentine receives a unique jersey for his last appearance with the national team.
The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner announced at the end of August that he was ending his international career. Argentina will also face Bolivia and Burkina Faso in October. Messi will then bid farewell against Benin at home. The 2022 World Cup champion currently has 207 caps with Argentina.
