Luca Zidane Prepares for Special Experience with the Greens!
Goalkeeper Luca Zidane is set to return to the national team during the gathering scheduled for next November, after missing the last match due to a suspension imposed by the Confederation of African Football and not being called up by national coach Ibrahim Hamdani, pending confirmation of his return to the "Greens" squad.
According to “La Gazette du Fennec”, the Leganés goalkeeper is expected to regain his starting position during the matches against Togo in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. This occasion could hold special significance for the son of legend Zinedine Zidane, as he may play his first match in the heart of Africa wearing the national team jersey.
Despite having participated in 10 international matches with the team, Luca Zidane has never played a match in sub-Saharan Africa. His previous appearances were spread across Algeria, Morocco, Italy, the Netherlands, the United States, and Canada.
Zidane joined the national team in October 2025, observing the match against Somalia from the bench before making his international debut against Uganda at the Hussein Aït Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou, at the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Leganés goalkeeper missed the last November gathering due to injury when the national team faced Zimbabwe and Saudi Arabia in friendly matches, before playing the rest of his international matches under different circumstances, whether during the March gathering in Italy which included matches against Guatemala and Uruguay, or during subsequent preparations that featured a match against the Netherlands and a clash with Bolivia in the United States.
Thus, the upcoming trip to the Togolese capital, Lomé, to face the local team may present Luca Zidane with a new challenge with the "Greens", especially since playing away in Africa carries different challenges in terms of match conditions and fan atmosphere.
If his participation in the upcoming gathering is confirmed, Zidane will have the opportunity to gain new experiences and enhance his international expertise, at a time when the national team aims to continue its preparations for upcoming challenges and achieve positive results in its matches against Togo.
