The roster for the Barea of Madagascar for the opening two rounds of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers has been unveiled. Among the players selected by Corentin Martins, two new faces: Zacharie Boucher and Roman Ferber. Although this marks his first call-up, Zacharie Boucher had initial interactions with the Malagasy Football Federation back in 2018. The goalkeeper had turned down the opportunity, asserting his French nationality. Now 34 years old, Boucher is expected to lend his extensive experience to the team. He honed his skills at Havre AC and has been a professional since 2011. His career has seen him play in both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs in France. The current goalkeeper for ESTAC Troyes has also played for Toulouse, Auxerre, Angers, Bastia, and even spent time in the Greek league with Aris Salonique. Named the best goalkeeper in Ligue in 2013, Zacharie Boucher has previously represented France at various youth levels (U19, U20, U21).
Corentin Martins has opted to rely on seasoned players to rebuild the Madagascar national team. This strategy likely also justifies the inclusion of Roman Ferber, aged 33. The forward from FC Atert Bissen (Luxembourg) possesses an impressive physical stature. Known for his notable goal-scoring ability, he began his professional career in 2014 with RAEC Mons while working in the construction sector. He has also played for Sporting Charleroi, Union Saint-Gilloise, and Olympic Charleroi.
