Mohamed El-Sayed, the Olympic champion in fencing, has risen to the top of the world rankings in the foil category thanks to his recent positive results.

Mohamed El-Sayed Wins Mediterranean Gold
Mohamed El-Sayed, a member of the Egyptian national fencing team and bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics, recently claimed the gold medal at the Mediterranean Games held in Taranto 2026, defeating his teammate Youssef Shamel 14-11 to secure the silver.
El-Sayed began his tournament journey by achieving a perfect score in the group stage, then won in the Round of 16 against Italian fencer Filippo Armalo with a score of 12-11.
He then triumphed in the quarter-finals against Italian Valerio Como with a score of 15-6, and advanced to the semi-finals after defeating the same Italian fencer 15-6.
In the semi-finals, El-Sayed defeated Portuguese player Miguel Frazo 15-10, and in the final, he emerged victorious over his teammate Shamel with a score of 14-11.
Olympic champion Mohamed El-Sayed, a member of the Egyptian national fencing team, and Farida Osman, a member of the Egyptian swimming team, carried the Egyptian flag during the opening ceremony of the Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026, in its twentieth edition, in the city of Taranto, Italy.
