Oscar Piastri dismisses concerns about F1 friendships following the boys' trip to Langkawi.

McLaren's Oscar Piastri has dismissed worries that strong friendships among Formula 1 drivers could undermine their competitiveness on the circuit.
Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, mentioned in his book that he prefers drivers to maintain distance, suggesting that off-track bonds might lead to hesitance in racing each other fiercely.
Several current F1 drivers took a trip to Langkawi for a getaway between the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and the Bahrain Grand Prix, which is set to take place in Malaysia.
Piastri was part of the vacation alongside his McLaren teammate Lando Norris, Mercedes' George Russell, Haas's Oliver Bearman, Audi's Gabriel Bortoleto, and Williams drivers Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz. Russell initially provided updates from the trip on Instagram, which garnered over 950,000 likes at the time of writing.
"Thanks for covering the expenses," Piastri remarked on the post. The Mercedes driver later clarified that most of the costs were charged to his account.
Fan reactions included: "George, thanks for sharing this Landoscar content, please continue," and "I absolutely love this, thank you. Netflix, I hope you feature it in DtS [Drive to Survive]."
In a press conference before the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend at the Sepang International Circuit, Piastri was inquired whether Brown had reached out to him about the trip.
"No, he hasn't," the Australian responded. "It was quite spontaneous."
For Piastri, the getaway provided a rare chance to disconnect from the F1 season.
"It was enjoyable to take a break from racing for a bit. It's uncommon to have so many drivers together, just relaxing away from the track," he elaborated.
"Ultimately, we're 22 individuals who share a passion for racing. Naturally, discussing certain topics can be a bit sensitive since we compete against each other. We have plenty in common that we rarely get the chance to explore. So it was quite refreshing.
"We all engaged in our own activities at times, and it wasn't as if we were glued to each other the entire time, but perhaps on the go-kart track we were. No, it truly was a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed it."
