Racing Bulls are "not hurrying" to make a choice among three "exceptional" drivers for F1 2027.

Racing Bulls F1 team principal Alan Permane has indicated that a decision regarding the 2027 driver lineup will be made in "a couple of weeks," as the team evaluates options between Liam Lawson and Nikola Tsolov for the final VCARB seat.
Red Bull faces a choice concerning Arvid Lindblad's teammate for 2027, as the newcomer has demonstrated his talent during a solid rookie season and is considered for a future role within Red Bull Racing.
This situation pits the current driver Liam Lawson against reserve driver Nikola Tsolov, the 19-year-old Bulgarian who has made a mark in F2 and stands next in line within the Red Bull junior program.
Lawson has commendably bounced back from a notably brief stint with Red Bull Racing in 2025, showing significant improvement in 2026, even though he hasn't yet had the chance to complete a full season with a single team. Earlier this year, Lawson received a second opportunity with Red Bull, stepping in for the injured Isack Hadjar and impressing during his outings in the RB22 before returning to his usual seat.
During a discussion on Friday in Singapore, VCARB team principal Permane recognized that the team is faced with a somewhat fortunate dilemma given their three "fantastic" options but emphasized that they are not rushing to reach a conclusion.
"It's going to be in the coming weeks," Permane stated. "We're not in a hurry. Everyone knows we have two outstanding drivers. There's also a remarkable driver in F2 at the moment, and they're all set and ready. But three doesn't fit into two, of course, so we’ll take a bit more time to ensure we find the right pairing for next year."
While Lawson appears to have done enough to warrant another year with Racing Bulls, the team must consider its core mission of serving as a development platform for talent in preparation for a potential promotion to Red Bull Racing, which is why elevating the promising F2 frontrunner Tsolov to race alongside Lindblad could also be a logical move.

When questioned about the criteria for himself and the Red Bull family, Permane responded: "There are many, many factors. I suppose the most important is speed and pace and everything that comes with that.
"We're in a somewhat unique position, I suppose. We aim to nurture young drivers. We want to promote young talent, and naturally, we keep an eye on their future progress. So, it’s not just about the present; it’s also about their potential moving forward."
