Ramiz Zerrouki observes that expectations for FC Twente are particularly high.
The Tukkers midfielder notes that, as a result, the fans are more quickly disappointed when the performance or results do not meet expectations.
“We must not let ourselves be disturbed during difficult moments. And now that everything is going well, we must not let that happen either,” emphasizes Zerrouki in an interview with Tubantia. Thus, the Enschede club has not always managed to convince, which has sometimes led to dissatisfaction.
“We ourselves have raised these expectations. Everyone has had their opinion on the matter, and this has impacted the fans.”
The Algerian international has nonetheless mostly felt positive support. “In 90% of cases, the support is always extremely strong. Whistling after a bad match is, in my opinion, acceptable, but it is not constructive if it happens after just fifteen minutes because the goalkeeper is slow to clear the ball.”
“We, the players, have never heard the term ‘crisis.’ I kept repeating that all the criticism was a bit exaggerated. It wasn’t enough, that’s true, but we were not fighting against relegation either,” adds Zerrouki.
“The results are satisfactory and our game is improving every day. But not everything is guaranteed yet,” continues the 28-year-old midfielder.
