Ait-Nouri's transfer to Manchester City has not gone as expected so far. Arriving from Wolverhampton for £31 million in June 2025, the Algerian was brought in as an experienced Premier League player, and the move was seen as a smart one at the time.
Fifteen months later, the picture has changed dramatically. A series of minor injuries played a role, but the emergence of Nico O’Reilly has also significantly contributed to this situation.
O’Reilly surprised fans by establishing himself as the starting left-back at City for most of last season under Pep Guardiola. This complicates matters for Ait-Nouri.
The Algerian defender has only appeared in 33 matches for the club and has yet to step onto the pitch in the Premier League this season, totaling less than 1,000 minutes of league play in the previous season.
