Ronaldo: The present moment is more important than tomorrow

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo emphasized that his focus is on the present, refusing to set a date for his international retirement, during a press conference held on Wednesday ahead of the UEFA Nations League match against Wales.

The 41-year-old player explained to reporters who inquired about his plans after he announced this summer that this season would "likely" be his last: "I am at an age where I don't think about the future. For me, the present is the most important."

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner indicated his readiness to leave the national team when requested by the coaching staff, stating that he would announce his departure before playing his last match wearing the captain's armband and the prestigious number 7 for the Portuguese national team.

He also confirmed his ambition to reach 1,000 goals, having scored 979 goals in various competitions.

The former Real Madrid and Juventus star, now with Al Nassr, said: "I have previously expressed my desire to achieve this milestone, and I will reach it, but it is not an obsession," explaining that he hopes to reach this record while representing the Portugal national team.

He added: "That would be a wonderful achievement for my career... Scoring the thousandth goal for the national team would be the culmination of a beautiful story."
