World-renowned throwing expert Vestin Hafsteinsson has arrived in Cairo to begin his technical program with the Egyptian Athletics Federation from October 5 to 10. This initiative is part of the federation's plan to leverage international expertise and improve the technical level of throwing events.
Hafsteinsson was welcomed by Major Hatem Fouda, president of the Egyptian Athletics Federation, and Dr. Wissam Said, the national team's technical director. The visit will kick off with a program that includes monitoring several shot put and discus throw athletes, assessing their performance, and conducting technical meetings with coaches and technical staff.
Major Hatem Fouda emphasized that hosting the Icelandic expert aligns with the federation's clear direction towards developing throwing events and benefiting from expertise that has reached the highest global levels.
Fouda stated that the federation does not view Hafsteinsson's visit as just a short training program, but aims to achieve real technical benefits for both athletes and coaches by introducing the latest training methods, performance evaluation, and analysis.
He added that the goal is to achieve the best possible preparation and provide the technical expertise that will help them reach international standards. Engaging a global expert of this caliber is an important step in this direction, but the key is to transform this expertise into sustainable knowledge within the Egyptian athletics system.
The federation president explained that the visit program includes direct monitoring of athletes in shot put and discus throw events, as well as technical sessions with coaches. This will allow for identifying strengths and areas needing improvement, and to compile technical notes that can be built upon in the next phase.
Coach Development is Essential
The federation president pointed out that the board places great importance on developing coaches, as producing champions is not limited to the athlete alone, but is linked to a comprehensive system that includes the coach, scientific planning, physical and technical preparation, and continuous follow-up. He stressed that the national coach's benefit from every international expert is a significant step towards creating promising champions capable of reaching the podium.
Fouda emphasized that the federation's board is working to expand cooperation with specialized experts in various athletics events, according to the needs of the teams and preparation plans, aiming to elevate Egyptian athletes to more competitive levels in continental and global championships and upcoming Olympic Games.
