The discussion of Mondial Sports

A new meeting in Mondial Sports: now, once a month on a Sunday, "intellectuals" gather to discuss major themes in sports news. They talk and exchange ideas in a warm atmosphere to deepen the subject. The discussion covers sports as well as society, culture, and politics. The agenda for this first meeting includes: the political statements of champions, the question of age, the unfulfilled promises of Paris 2024 regarding disability, and the media exposure of VSS (gender-based and sexual violence).

Teddy Riner, the French judo icon, recently expressed his concern about the rise of the far-right in France. This statement has led to numerous racist attacks against him online. Why is it so difficult for a renowned athlete to speak out in 2026?

In his book From Revolution to Oblivion - After the Flame, the Betrayed Promise (Alisio editions), former wheelchair tennis champion Michaël Jérémiasz criticizes the legacy, or rather the lack of legacy, of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games regarding the consideration of disability in France. Is it surprising to arrive at this bitter conclusion?

Athlete Wilfried Happio, sailor Kevin Escoffier, swimmer Amaury Leveaux, and of course, star footballer Achraf Hakimi: regularly, prominent athletes make headlines due to VSS issues. What perspective, particularly media-wise, should we take on these events?

Finally, everyone knows Kylian Mbappé's famous quote, "Don't talk to me about age." However, time spares no one. Even CR7, at 41, has posed a problem for Portugal. Can athletes, especially those who have reached the top, age gracefully?

Answers to these questions will be provided during the first discussion of Mondial Sports. Join us at 16:10 UTC, with:

  • Mejdaline Mhiri, journalist
  • Seghir Lazri, sports sociologist
  • Fabien Lacouture, art historian.

The audio will be available on the page starting Sunday, October 4, at 19:05.
