The Football Association will decide on Somali referee Omar Artan's request to officiate in the league during the next meeting.

The Egyptian Football Association's board will decide on Somali referee Omar Artan's request to officiate in the Egyptian Premier League during the upcoming council meeting. This follows the receipt of an official request from Artan by Essam Abdel Fattah, head of the Egyptian referees committee, to manage matches in the tournament.

Omar Artan Aims to Officiate in the Egyptian League

Essam Abdel Fattah revealed that he has been in contact with the Somali referee, who expressed his desire to settle in Egypt and engage in officiating in the Egyptian league.

The head of the referees committee confirmed that Omar Artan submitted an official request expressing his wish to take on this challenge, emphasizing that the referees committee welcomes the request, which will be presented to the board of the Egyptian Football Association for a final decision.

Abdel Fattah added that if the board approves this request, the Somali referee will join the Egyptian officiating system for the current season.

World Cup Issues Affect Somali Referee's Path

Omar Artan faced a setback that hindered his ambition to officiate at the 2026 World Cup after he was denied entry into the United States upon arriving at Miami Airport last June.

Following this incident, the Somali referee received an invitation from UEFA to officiate the UEFA Super Cup match held between Paris Saint-Germain and their opponent, which ended with the French team winning 2-1.

Essam Abdel Fattah Praises Omar Artan's Skills

Essam Abdel Fattah concluded his statements by praising the Somali referee, affirming that Omar Artan is considered one of the top referees in Africa recently, while awaiting the Egyptian Football Association board's decision regarding his request to work in the Egyptian league.
