Ronaldo, the all-time leading scorer for the Portuguese national team with 146 goals in 234 matches, left the national camp after learning of Jesus's plan to keep him on the bench for a second consecutive time, amid reports suggesting he might retire from international play.

Bruno Fernandes, who attended the conference with Jesus, remarked: "The important thing is that no matter what happens, Cristiano will always remain a prominent symbol for our national team and for Portuguese football. He holds a special place among the greatest players of all time, as well as in the hearts of all Portuguese people."

Portugal leads its group in the Nations League with 9 points from 3 victories, including two wins without Ronaldo, before hosting Norway on Sunday in Porto.

Jesus faced numerous questions about Ronaldo during a press conference on Saturday ahead of the UEFA Nations League clash with Norway, before the national team's media staff intervened to conclude the conference after repeated inquiries about the player.

Jesus stated: "Did I talk to Cristiano? I won’t disclose anything to you. He is a symbol for our national team and for Portugal, and we will find time to discuss all of that after the match. Let me focus right now on the team and our opponent Norway, one of the top 5 teams in Europe, which has outstanding players."
