In a discussion with Just Riadh, Ilan Kebbal shared insights into the inner workings of the Algerian national team. He touched on the expectations tied to the national jersey, the debates surrounding certain decisions from the bench, and the talents that stand out daily. The Paris FC player offered his perspective on the environment of the Greens, with some revelations that are sure to spark reactions.
Ilan Kebbal spoke about his journey with the Algerian national team, a topic that is particularly close to his heart. For the Paris FC player, representing Algeria goes far beyond the mere sporting aspect. "Playing for Algeria is incredible. The love we have for this country is immense," he shared with Just Riadh.
The Algerian international also highlighted the difference between the pressure felt at club level and that which accompanies national team matches. "At the club, I feel the pressure of not disappointing, but with Algeria, it's different. We feel the pressure to shine for the country and to give the supporters what they deserve on the pitch," he explained.
When asked about the situation of the Greens in recent years, Kebbal stated that the national team has started to lift its head, while admitting that recent competitions could have been more successful. In his view, the goal now is to achieve stability that will allow Algeria to remain at the top for the long term.
Kebbal discusses Petkovic's choices and highlights Algerian talents
While some supporters have occasionally expressed confusion over Vladimir Petkovic's tactical choices, the Paris FC player reminded everyone of the position of the internationals. "We are players and we stay in our place. Sometimes, certain coaches don't make the right decisions, but we also have our share of responsibility," he stated.
Regarding the talents present in the squad, Kebbal did not hesitate to name Ibrahim Maza as the player who impresses him the most. He also praised Rayan Aït-Nouri, whose versatility and defensive qualities particularly surprise him.
"In terms of talents, I would say Maza. There's also Aït-Nouri. He can play as a number 10, he can play anywhere! Sometimes, in training, when he has the ball, I don't like it too much. I'm all in, and he stays a bit nonchalant," he humorously recounted, before adding: "I've never faced a left-back capable of doing what he does. Moreover, he defends very well; he's hard to get past."
Kebbal also mentioned Anis Hadj Moussa and Belloumi among the players who deserve to be highlighted. He emphasized that Belloumi was not selected because of his name, but due to his performances, reminding that having a famous name can also bring additional pressure.
Finally, the attacking midfielder discussed the competition at both club and national levels, considering that the two contexts are different. "The national team is the only place where you have to set your ego aside. I want to play, but the goal remains to lead the national team to the top," he concluded.
