Youssef Obama, a player for Pyramids FC, spoke about his departure from Zamalek and his experience with Portuguese coach José Gomes, as well as details about his relationship with the players at the White Castle.
In an interview with journalist Ibrahim Abdel Jawad on the "Malab On" program aired on ON Sports, Youssef Obama said: "Zamalek players suffer at the club and face pressure. My departure from Zamalek was like 'perhaps you dislike something and it is good for you.' God blessed me, and I won the CAF Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup, which I did not achieve with Zamalek."
Regarding Gomes, he added: "Gomes is one of the best coaches I have worked with. He loved the club and showed his dedication in his work. He always encouraged the players to be patient and loyal to the club, and he spoke about victories for the fans. He was close to the Zamalek players and is a wonderful person on a personal level."
Obama continued: "Gomes defended the players everywhere, especially regarding their dues, and I never felt that he let the team down by leaving." He revealed an incident between him and Gomes, saying: "Gomes once asked me how long the situation at Zamalek would continue like this, and as a club member, I told him that he was in the best times of the club, and he laughed and moved on."
About Juan Pizarro, Obama said: "Juan Pizarro's methods did not affect me. All the players who do that do it just to show off, and it's not genuine feelings. We are players and we know this system, and all players know where the cameras are, so they go to create that moment."
On the importance of the dressing room in achieving championships, Obama said: "If the dressing room is cohesive, you will achieve a title. But if the spirits are not good, it will cause problems. However, when everyone loves each other, things go smoothly and unexpected victories happen. Things are going well at Pyramids now because of this reason."
