Libya advances to the next stage of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Following the first leg a week ago in Lomé, both teams still had a chance. However, the Libyans, spurred on by their home crowd in Misrata, quickly took control of the match. They managed to break through the Togolese defense. In the 25th minute, a defensive error saw the Togolese side caught out of position, allowing the Libyan forward, unmarked at the back post, to score the opener. The teams went into halftime with Libya in the lead.
The Togolese Eperviers returned with renewed determination, attempting to challenge the opposing defense. Yet, the resistance they faced was formidable. They were ultimately punished with a second goal against them. Djibril Bastou managed to pull one back, reigniting hope among the fans. However, Libya sealed their qualification for the second round with a third goal towards the end of the match.
Togo’s journey ends in the first round. The Knights of the Nile will meet Ghana in the second round for a chance to compete in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations.
