Germany: Bensebaini's future at Dortmund appears to be dimming.

After several difficult weeks, Ramy Bensebaini made his return to the pitch this Saturday with Borussia Dortmund. This appearance comes at a crucial time for the Algerian defender, who finds himself at a decisive turning point regarding his future with the German club.
Ramy Bensebaini returned to competitive action this Saturday afternoon during the match against Paderborn, as part of the third round of the Bundesliga. Starting on the bench, the Algerian international was called to enter the game in the 77th minute.
This comeback follows an injury sustained during the German Supercup against Bayern Munich on August 22. Having suffered an injury to his lower thorax, Bensebaini was forced to miss the first two league matches as well as the last official games of BVB in the Champions League and the DFB-Pokal. His reappearance is therefore excellent news for the Algerian national team, ahead of the upcoming gathering.
However, behind this positive sporting news lies a much more concerning situation. According to information reported by the German magazine Kicker, Borussia Dortmund has reportedly decided not to renew the contract of the Algerian defender, which expires in June 2027.
This decision is said to be influenced by the player's recent performances, which have compromised his position within Niko Kovac's team. Bensebaini's start to the season has not been particularly bright, with an insufficient performance during the Supercup against Bayern, before his injury interrupted his progress.
Bensebaini is expected to continue the current season with Dortmund, but he may start considering the next steps in his career as early as January 2027. From that date, he will have the freedom to negotiate with any club of his choice and could leave BVB without a fee at the expiration of his contract.
Arriving in Dortmund in the summer of 2023, the 31-year-old has made 107 appearances for the German club so far, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists. His return this Saturday allows him to gradually regain his rhythm while trying to reverse a trend that seems unfavorable regarding his future at Signal Iduna Park.
Borussia Dortmund's comprehensive victory against Paderborn (3-0), with two of the three goals scored after Bensebaini's entry, nonetheless adds a positive note to this significant day for the Algerian.
