The organizing committee for the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Games in the French Alps (Cojop) confirmed on Thursday the departure of its president, Edgar Grospiron, more than a year and a half after his appointment, plunging the organizers into a new governance crisis.

His decision to leave the presidency is part of a chosen, organized, and accepted transition, in the interest of the project and its governance. It reflects a shared desire with stakeholders to allow the organization to quickly enter this new operational phase,” the committee explained in a statement.

The departure of the 1992 Olympic champion in mogul skiing had been anticipated in recent hours and was officially announced on Thursday during a meeting of the Cojop executive board.
